What gift will you give the world today?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 24, 2007:
Before I woke up this morning, I think my answer would have been very different. I would have said something like "A smile" or "A positive thought". But when I woke up this morning, I was informed that my aunt's brother had committed suicide just three days before Christmas. He was supposed to pick up his elderly parents and when he never showed up, they sent his children to his house to see what was wrong, only to find that everything was.
So I would give the world one simple thing, the knowledge that things would be okay. No matter how bad things get, no matter how awful thing can seem, everything is going to be okay. There is always someone in your life that will make it okay. There is always someone there who will give you that hug you need, that smile that will light up your day or will just sit and listen to whatever you need.
Some truly awful things happened this Christmas season to my family. But there was also some truly amazing things that happened as well. My cousin came home with her four month old. My other cousin is still in school, her life is finally turned around after dropping out of school and a stint in rehab, and my brother asked his girlfriend to marry him. By next October, I'll have gained a sister.
There is always something that will bring everything back to perspective and make everything okay in the end.
